Lady Falcons golf season ends at district tournament

MIAMISBURG — The Clinton-Massie girls golf season ended Wednesday in the Division II District Girls Golf Championship at Pipestone Golf Club.

”The girls had an awesome year. They exceeded all of their team season goals,” coach James Brady said. “I can’t say enough positive things about these young ladies on and off the course. It’s very much bittersweet because as a team this is the best ever team finish in Clinton-Massie girls golf history.”

With Fenwick (351) and Madeira (356) earning those state berths, it’s worth noting Mariemont (383) was third and Clinton-Massie (383) fourth in the district … which is the same order of finish the teams had in last week’s Division II Sectional Girls Golf Championship.

“We knew coming in that we had our work cut out for us,” said Brady. “I feel Fenwick is the favorite to win the state and Madeira is just a few strokes behind them. Our sectional is one of, if not the toughest in the state currently and today’s results show that.”

Grace Boone, the Clinton-Massie senior leader, had an 81 (39-42) in the district and finished fifth overall. The two individual qualifiers among those not on state qualifying teams were Sophia Fink of Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy (77) and Lauren Miller (Alter) 78.

“We played a tough course,” said Brady. “The greens were in excellent shape. The rest of the course was pretty opposite of what most teams have experienced all season. During our practice round last night it rained even more.

“Grace was most consistent all day long. She chipped in for a birdie and was right on that line all day long of qualifying for state. It’s so hard to look at how close she ended up being. Our seniors have been vital in the resurgence of this program. Lauren Edwards as our personality and Grace as our standard. Lauren and Grace provided so much balance to our team in different ways. They will be missed. Grace is set to continue her career at Purdue Northwest, an NCAA Division II school outside of Chicago.”

Also for Massie, Stormie Stroud had a 92 (46-46), Charlotte Robinson 106 (54-52), Rylee Long 104 (50-54) and Sammi VanPelt 121 (60-61).
