Week 7 Final: Clinton-Massie 55, Goshen 0

ADAMS TOWNSHIP — The Clinton-Massie Falcons celebrated Homecoming in dominant fashion Friday with dazzling play in all three phases of a 55-0 victory over SBAAC American opponent Goshen to move to 2-0 in conference play.

CM opened up the game with the yearly Homecoming ceremonies with Avden Faucett being named Homecoming King and Reese Byington as Homecoming Queen.

Despite the dominant win, the game began in a rather forgettable way for the Falcons. Beginning with the ball, CM was forced to a 3rd and 9 on the opening set of downs. QB Kaden Zantene dropped back to pass and sent one behind the sticks forcing the Falcon punt.

The Warriors found themselves in third and long as well, but receiver Camden Telinda went up in double coverage coming down with the first down catch. This turned out to be one of only three first downs Goshen mustered in the first half.

“We started pretty hot, then the defense really took over. We’re just playing at a really high level right now. I think the preseason, non conference and the previous six games really tested us,” said Clinton-Massie coach Dan McSurley.

After getting the Warriors to another third and long, Ty Martin busted through the line for the sack forcing the punt, and on the first place of their second drive Eli Muterspaw found the hole going 33 yards. Muterspaw went for 38 on the next play, setting the Falcons up at the 2. Ty Clutter then pushed it in for the early 7-0 lead.

After a short Warriors punt of 17 yards, the Falcons struck on the first play with Zantene hitting Andrew Smith for the score and a 14-0 lead.

Clutter wouldn’t be satisfied only making an impact on offense. On Goshen’s next play from scrimmage, he ran free for an 11-yard sack that led to CM getting the ball back quickly again. Rather than the run game, Clinton-Massie went off-brand again, airing it out on a screen pass to Cooper Carmack for 34, then Zantene threw it to the end zone drawing a pass interference that set up Hunter Monds for a touchdown run and the 21-0 lead.

The Falcons defense kept getting stops and the offense continued to score as the lead grew to 41-0 at the half, setting up the second half running clock and mass substitutions.

Goshen wouldn’t get another first down until there was just a minute left in half.

“We’re going to keep having to improve,” McSurley said. “These next three teams are pretty pass heavy. Batavia’s got some explosive players, Western Brown has a solid team. We just got to get our defensive backs in our defense solid so when we play these upper echelon teams we’re ready to go. But very pleased with the efforts tonight.” said McSurley.

CM will be at Western Brown next week, but first will enjoy the Homecoming weekend after kicking it off with a big win.
