Clinton County Community Action proudly proclaims October as Weatherization Month to recognize the essential work of its Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP) in reducing energy costs and improving living conditions for low-income families, according to a news release.

Ohio households that participate in WAP see an average 30% reduction in heating costs, allowing more funds for essentials like food, healthcare, and prescriptions. Beyond financial relief, the program enhances household safety by improving indoor air quality and providing free smoke and carbon monoxide detectors.

“Community Action’s Weatherization Assistance Program is a vital lifeline for many families,” said Lisa Thompson, CCCAP energy coordinator, adding that weatherization provides an economic boost to communities by creating jobs and improving housing conditions.

The WAP’s cost-effectiveness is clear — for every $1 invested, the program returns $4 in energy, health, and safety benefits, making it a smart investment for taxpayers and a crucial step toward energy efficiency, according to the release. Ohio’s program also leads the nation in energy savings per household, further proving the program’s effectiveness.

The program is open to both Clinton and Clark County residents, including homeowners and renters (with landlord permission). Residents interested in learning more about weatherization services can apply for free insulation, furnace repair, and more, with eligibility based on income. These upgrades not only save money but help improve homes and the environment.

“We urge all eligible families to take advantage of this incredible opportunity to lower their energy costs and create a healthier home environment,” said Thompson.
