WILMINGTON, Ohio — BOX-14 Responder Support Unit is excited to announce that it has officially received its 501(C)(3) tax-exempt status from the IRS, according to a news release.

This significant achievement marks a major milestone in the organization’s efforts to provide critical support to first responders during major or long-running incidents in the community. The accomplishment was made possible through the dedicated efforts of Neil Rhonemus, who worked closely with legal advisor, Edmund Besong.

“We are beyond excited to receive our 501(C)(3) status. It’s a huge step forward for BOX-14, and it opens the door for us to expand our mission and serve our community better. Working with our team and our dedicated lawyer was an incredible experience, and I’m looking forward to the next phase—securing the funding needed to get us fully operational by March 2025,” said Rhonemus.

BOX-14 is actively developing an organizing and training plan for its members to ensure they are fully prepared to respond to various emergency situations. The next major step involves identifying and acquiring a vehicle to support its mission. This vehicle will be essential in enhancing the unit’s ability to deliver resources and assistance effectively to first responders.

Additionally, BOX-14 is grateful for the support, mentorship, and inspiration provided by neighboring BOX-65, according to the release. “Their guidance has been instrumental in shaping the future of BOX-14, and we look forward to continuing our collaboration,” the release states.

The unit is also working on securing pledges and drafting project proposals for local grants to fund the next phase of its operations. The organization’s goal is to be fully operational by the end of March 2025, ready to serve the Clinton County community and beyond.
