Student at leadership summit

Nathan Prather (second from left) of Clarksville, a seventh-grader at Ohio Connections Academy, joined three of his classmates — from left, Monet Meadows of Euclid, Sydney Fuller of Sunbury and Kelton Bair of Wooster — last week at a leadership summit at The Ohio State University in Columbus. The day-long summit was hosted by the National Honor Society and National Junior Honor Society. Nathan and the other students were invited to take part in leadership development exercises where students engaged in discussions and heard from state leaders about different issues. The students then employed design-thinking strategies to identify challenges at their school or in the community and possible solutions. Nathan, who hopes to one day work in hotel management, took part in the conservation session as well as the session focused on effective communication. Nathan liked how the summit really showed students how to know an audience and to engage group discussions. Ohio Connections Academy is a free, fully-online public school that students in grades K-12 attend from home.
