WILMINGTON — The Clinton-Massie girls golf team defeated Blanchester and Washington Senior High School Thursday in non-league action at the Elks 797 Golf Club.

A day after shooting 199, the Falcons came back strong with a 165, led by Grace Boone’s 38.

“Great bounce back from last night,” Massie coach James Brady said. “We struck the ball well all the way around. Five scores below 47 is tough to do.”

Boone and Stormie Stroud both had birdies. The 165 is a season-best team total for Clinton-Massie.

Alivia Brewster led Blanchester with a 40.

“It was good to once again play a match that doesn’t have the same pressure as the league matches do,” BHS coach Jamey Grogg said. “It is important to have these kinds of matches throughout the season so that girls have a chance to work on some things on the course. You can only do so much at the driving range or on the practice green so the girls need to be able to work on hitting different shots in match play.

“Alivia Brewster shot a career low 40. She has really been working on her swing in practice and it was nice to see her effort pay off with a fantastic round of golf.”

Brady said Grogg and the Wildcats “are always a joy to play against. Blanchester played very well. Coach Jamey has done a great job with his team.”
