Fundraiser for Brett Wightman Memorial Fund scholarships

Cruze in the Country for a great cause — to benefit the Brett Wightman Memorial Fund and local scholarships — to be hosted by Luttrell Trucking Saturday, June 17 at 5775 SR 72, Sabina.

US Marine Corps Lance Corporal Brett Wightman, who graduated from East Clinton High School in 2002, and other members of Lima Company lost their lives on Aug. 3, 2005 when his amphibious assault vehicle was hit by an explosive device during a combat operation in Iraq.

Shortly after his death, the Brett Wightman Memorial Foundation was founded by his father, Keith, to “ensure that Brett will never be forgotten and that good things and good deeds are done in his name.” The Brett Wightman Scholarship Fund for deserving East Clinton students is part of the Clinton County Foundation and it is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit.

For this event, one of two major annual fundraisers of the fund, the car show is 1-6 p.m.; $10 registration fee at noon. It is open to all makes, models and years.

The band 30 ot 6 will perform 7:30 p.m. to midnight, and there will be concessions by Flint Foods and the event will also feature Chazziz DJ Service. BYOB. Horseshoe and cornhole tourney; hoopshoot/free throw challenge for all ages.

Please note that this event benefits the scholarship fund only (not the ECHS football field); there are separate accounts for each cause.
