LEES CREEK – The East Clinton girls basketball team defeated Dayton Christian 46-43 in non-league action at ECHS.

The Lady Astros, now 5-15, were led by Kaitlin Durbin who had 15 points and six rebounds.

Bre Davis had eight points and seven rebounds while Lacey Peterman had seven points, three rebounds and four steals. Paige Lilly had six points and two rebounds. Ciarra Cooper had four points, four rebounds and two assists.

Kayla Hall had four points and Sam Gaddis had two points, three rebounds and two steals. Allison Tong and Marissa Williams had one rebound each. Sierra Christian grabbed two rebounds.

Dayton Christian falls to 9-8.

The game was close the whole way. Neither team led by more than four points, EC coach Steven Gerber said.

The Lady Crusaders led 13-9 in the first and 22-20 at the half. In the second half, East Clinton “came out really strong on both ends.”

The Lady Astros surged into the lead, 31-28, at the end of three.

“We made a couple adjustments at the half on the defensive end and the girls did a good job of executing those adjustments,” Gerber said.

Dayton Christian, however, regained the lead, 40-38, with 2:10 to play. East Clinton “knocked down some big free throws and did a good job taking care of the ball when it mattered most. Even when (Dayton Christian) took the lead late, the girls buckled down and made all the plays they needed down the stretch.”
