WILMINGTON – Wilmington won seven of 11 events to lock up its second straight South Central Ohio League girls swimming championship Saturday at Wilmington College.

Alyssa Lewis, who will swim collegiately at Siena College, led the Hurricane with firsts in the 50-meter and 100-meter freestyles. Alison Dooley and Morgan Bahr logged the other Wilmington firsts, in the 200 individual medley and 100 butterfly, respectively.

That trio teamed with Brianna Gilbert to take first in the 200 medley relay and with Olivia Lewis to win the 400 free relay. Gilbert and Olivia Lewis, plus Anna Garnai and Rachael Billups, won the 200 free relay.

“We knew coming in that we were going to be strong. A lot of girls stepped up in places where we needed them to step up,” Wilmington head swimming coach Mitch Hopf said. “Each team is a little different. They’re both special. We have a lot of really talented swimmers who took the place of the talented swimmers we had last year.”

Clinton-Massie’s Gracie Storm won the 100 back and set an SCOL record in the 200 free.

Other individual champions include Miami Trace’s Clare Sollars in the 400 free and Chillicothe’s Heidi Arth in the 100 breaststroke.

Washington Court House’s best finishes were seconds in the 200 medley relay and by Kirsten List in the 50 and 100 free.

McClain’s best results were in the 200 and 400 free relays where the Tigers placed second.

Brittany Rhoads had Hillsboro’s top finishes, a sixth in the 100 fly and an eighth in the 200 free.
