MT. ORAB — The Blanchester High School softball team opened its season Saturday with a doubleheader loss to Western Brown.
“Western Brown is one of the top teams in the SBC (Southern Buckeye Conference) American Division) and in the SW (Southwest) District and we battled them to the end in each game,” BHS head coach Jamey Grogg said. “We have some things to work on but this was a great test to open our season and, for the most part, we responded to the challenge.”
Western Brown scored the winning run with two outs in the bottom of the seventh in the opener for a 2-1 victory. In the nightcap, Blanchester banged out 13 hits but committed 10 errors in a 9-4 loss.
Sophomore Madison Curless had a strong day at the plate and on the mound. She pitched 8 2/3 innings and allowed just four hits while striking out six and walking three. She gave up two earned runs.
At the plate, Curless was 5-for-7 with two homeruns and four runs batted in in the two games.
Hannah Mann had two hits each both games.
