BHS boys dominate at Blanchester Inv.

BLANCHESTER — Dominating on its home layout, the Blanchester High School boys track and field team lapped the field Friday at the Blanchester Invitational at Barbour Memorial Field track complex.

The Wildcats recorded eight first-place finishes en route to 167 points. Runnerup Batavia had 73 and third-place East Clinton totaled 68.

The top finish for the Astros were runnerup placements by Anthony Osburn in the 100-meter dash (12.04 seconds), Zack Mitchell in the 200-meter dash (24.9 seconds), Thomas Wright in the discus (136-1.5) and Ethan Ambrose in the high jump (5-6).

Derick Bowman won two individual events for Blanchester and took part in two winning relays. He won the 110-meter high hurdles (16.67) and the 300-meter intermediate hurdles (42.86).

Bowman, Jacob Burden, Lucas Thacker and Brent Hopkins finished in 1:38.08 and won the 4×200-meter relay.

Bowman, Tanner Creager, Cole Feirl and Dylan Miller toured the BHS oval four times in 3:46 and won the 4×400-meter relay.

Johnny Schirmer cleared 5-8 to win the high jump and Burden posted a best of 19-5.25 in winning the long jump event.

The 4×800-meter relay team of Creager, Feirl, Sean Holland and Ricky Davis finished in 8:59.92 and placed first. The 4×100-meter team of Hopkins, Burden, Thacker and Dale Sturgill went 46.3 and finished first.

BLANCHESTER — With a strong showing on the track, the Blanchester High School girls track and field team won the Blanchester Invitational Friday at the Barbour Memorial Field track complex.

The Ladycats won seven events — all on the track — and finished with 124 points while runnerup Eastern Brown finished with 87 points. East Clinton was 10th with 23 points.

The top showing for East Clinton was by a pair of relay teams. The 4×800-meter team of Rebecca Bevan, Hannah Pickering, Carli Ellis and Alex Hughes finished fourth (13:24.08) as did the 4×100-meter team of Emma Malone, Veronica Brewer, Mindy Bean and Emilee Cross. They ran 57.1.

For Blanchester, the 4×800 team of Mckenzie Hamm, Olivia Gundler, Savannah Rhodes and Emma Gundler ran 10:44.42 and started things in the running events with a victory.

Hamm, the Gundler sisters and Alley Davis won the final track event, the 4×400-meter relay, in 4:32.65.

In the 4×200 relay, Hamm, Davis, Emma Gundler and Mandy Gerlach claimed first in 1:56.

Olivia Gundler clocked a personal best of 5:45.45 and won the 1,600-meter run. Emma Gundler went 1:03.68 and hit the line first in the 400-meter dash. Hamm was a winner in the 800-meter run in 2:34.29. Rhodes was triumphant in the 3,200-meter run in 12:38.98.
